Ellen Pompeo is having second thoughts about leaving “Grey’s Anatomy”.
The leading actress has recently expressed a desire to move on from the long-running medical drama. She said in September the show had “told the majority of the stories it can tell.” 13 years into her role as Dr. Meredith Grey and Pompeo is “definitely looking for a change.”
Not so fast! Pompeo reflected on her past comments and revealed there might, in fact, be more “Grey’s Anatomy” in her future.
“I keep saying, ‘I’m ready to move on and I want to stop the show before the ratings go down,’ but the ratings never go down!” she told TVLine. “They go down a little bit, but the fact that we are able to hold our [title as ABC’s No. 1 series] is kind of [incredible]. It’s very cool to have these kind of ratings and be on a hit network show in this [TV] landscape.”
Furthermore, the steady work and consistent schedule mean the 49-year-old actress has more time for her three children. The $20 million deal she signed through Season 16 is not too shabby either.
So it seems the future of “Grey’s Anatomy” in uncertain for everyone: Pompeo, the fans, and the show itself. “I’m contracted through Season 16. Beyond that,” she noted. “I don’t really know. I take it day-by-day.”
