After nearly 40 years at NBC, sportscaster Bob Costas is officially parting ways with the network.
Costas, 66, and NBC had reportedly been negotiating his exit for months. Joining NBC Sports in 1979, Costas’ most recent contract was to run through 2021 but his departure had been expected following his retirement from Olympics coverage in 2017.
“It’s all settled quietly and happily for all concerned,” Costas confirms to the New York Post. A rep for NBC Sports also confirms his exit.
Costas, who is known for his outspoken views and coverage of sports and culture, stopped covering NFL games for NBC following his increasingly critical stance on the physical toll the sport takes on its players’ brains and bodies.
A 28-time Emmy winner, Costas will continue to cover baseball games as an announcer for MLB Network.
