After Cardi B’s video calling out Trump and the U.S. government shutdown went viral earlier this week, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said she will team up with the rapper if it means bringing an end to the shutdown.
In a video from TMZ, AOC calls out Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, saying that he cannot be found. She asks him to come back and reopen the vote so “people can start getting paid.”
The shutdown is currently in day 27.
When asked whether it was appropriate the “Bodak Yellow” rapper to speak out about Trump, Ocasio-Cortez said “absolutley,” adding, “Bronx girls are going to reopen the government.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s first speech from the House floor this past Wednesday broke a record for C-Span’s Twitter feed with more than 1 million people watching.
In the video Cardi B posted on Instagram for her fans, she asked them to make their voices heard and support the people whose lives are being affected. “I feel like we need to take some action. I don’t know what type of action, b***h, because this is not what I do. But, b***h, I’m scared.”
She concluded her video by saying, “This s**t is crazy. Like, our country is in a hellhole right now — all for a f**kin’ wall.”
