Kendall Jenner may be a 23-year-old top model and reality TV star whose net worth has been estimated at being somewhere between $18 million and $30 million, but that doesn’t mean she’s gotten over being a pimply faced teenager who once struggled with severe acne.
In an emotional Instagram post, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star opens up about her “debilitating” battle with acne, which she reveals caused her to “feel anxious, helpless and insecure” during her teenage years.
Admitting “there are much bigger problems happening in the world,” Jenner writes that she’s sharing this painful chapter from her past because, “as humans, I don’t think we share our insecurities enough because we live in a time where being ‘perfect’ is the standard. We curate our life online and pick the pretty moments to post.”

Her goal: “I’d like to show a younger generation that not everything is perfect. Being insecure about my acne gave me thick skin but I wouldn’t ever wish that feeling upon anyone so after trying countless options, I found something that has been helpful in maintaining clear skin for me. It’s been a long journey but I’m excited for where my skin is now. I didn’t think I’d see the day where I would feel confident posting a makeup free picture. My goal is to open up a dialogue around skin positivity. ❤️”
In addition, Jenner — who recently announced her endorsement deal with acne medication Proactiv — also shared a 10-year challenge photo on Instagram Story, demonstrating how bad her acne was when she was 13, captioning the pic, “I was 13 and ran home crying everyday because people would stare at my skin.”

However, not everyone was taken with Jenner’s openness about her skin issues, with numerous people taking to Twitter to point out that Jenner has access to expensive dermatological solutions that aren’t affordable for most people, while others simply mocked her for complaining about pimples when there are so many more important issues to discuss right now.
