Celebrities are pleading with their Instagram followers to “turn on notifications” after widespread rumours of a change to the social media channel’s news feed spread like wildfire.
Instagram users have been up in arms over the network’s proposed changes — moving from chronological to algorithmic — with many believing that the update would prevent photos from appearing in their followers’ feeds.

“I’m not down with the Instagram changes but if you do this it means you can keep it as normal and still see things in chronological order etc,”; Ellie Goulding wrote, spreading false information.

“The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order,” a blog post from Instagram explained.
An inaccurate meme has now been bombarding user feeds with requests to “turn on notifications” as news of the change has spread across the network, and many celebrities have been joining in the trend.
Celebs such as Jaime King, model Devon Windsor and Rachel Platten have shared the meme with their fans.
