Lasting about a minute-and-a-half, the opening shot of the season is energetic and unbroken taking the viewer bouncing through a department store, and then down into the basement where Rachel Brosnahan’s Midge Maisel works as a telephone switchboard operator.

Insider put together a video breaking down how the show’s cinematographer created the elaborate shot.

It turns out the single take was actually done as two shots. One upstairs, and then another downstairs, with the camera following a CGI letter down a mail slot to stitch the two together.

After that, the rest of the sequence was all real, no computers necessary. The Steadicam operator had to maneuver the camera around a tight space filled with a dozen actresses, all timing their actions to move out of the way without bumping into each other.
