Matthew McConaughey and his “Serenity” co-star Anne Hathaway dropped by Thursday’s edition of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”, a show known for squeezing secrets out of celebrity guests through its “Plead the Fifth” segment.

That was certainly the case when McConaughey, 49, played the game, in which guests are asked three questions but can only pass on one.

Cohen asked McConaughey to rank three of his best-known romantic comedies — “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, “The Wedding Planner” and “Failure to Launch” — from best to worst.

According to McConaughey, the film he did with Kate Hudson, “How to Lose a Guy”, has been his “greatest mailbox money of any film I’ve ever done.

“It is always on. And there’s always this great little cheque that shows up in the mail. [I’m like] ‘From “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. I did that however many years ago.'”

It was followed by “Failure to Launch” (with Sarah Jessica Parker) then “The Wedding Planner” (with Jennifer Lopez) as the worst.

McConaughey also weighed in on a longstanding rumour that he once dated Janet Jackson.

“We went and had dinner,” he said after a round of laughter. “That was sort of it.”

“I’ve never gone out with Janet Jackson,” Hathaway deadpanned.

Cohen also asked him about the doping scandal involving cyclist Lance Armstrong, a longtime McConaughey pal, which the actor expertly sidestepped.

“Because we all want to hear Miss Hathaway answer a tough question, and this is my last, I plead the fifth.”
