Ahead of his hosting duties on “SNL”, James McAvoy spoke to Men’s Journal about his near-death experience last year.
He spoke candidly of getting physical because he would be 40 soon and he is a parent.
When the doctors did an X-ray of his lungs, they became suspicious and ordered a biopsy.
It was nothing, but from the surgery from the biopsy became infected and what should have been a one-day event turned out to a three-week hospital stay.
“It nearly killed me,” McAvoy said. “It was very scary. A terrifying f**king thing to go through.”
He admits that the incident has made him realise he needs more “balance” in his life so he can spend it with his son, 8.
This means less 5 month away movie shoots, more British movies and more directing so he can be there to pick his son up from school.
“I love my job. Love it…. But there’s got to be more balance,” he concluded.
With his new movie “Glass” from M. Night Shyamalan in theatres now, McAvoy is taking the “SNL” stage for hosting duties this evening.
