Octavia Spencer says more men need to stand-up for women’s rights, just like LeBron James once did for her.

The “Hidden Figures” star revealed how the NBA icon helped her score equal pay on the Netflix series “Madam C.J. Walker”. Spencer stars as the titular character who in real-life became America’s first black self-made millionaire.

“I have to say, when I was negotiating my deal for ‘Madam C.J.’, LeBron James had to intervene,” Spencer revealed during a recent panel at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. “So we need all our male counterparts to be in the fight with us.” James served as an executive producer on the project.

“I think my goal is to make sure that all women of colour get equal pay, and all women get equal pay,” Spencer continued, per IndieWire. “The only way to do it is to have these conversations, to talk numbers with your co-stars.”

Spencer and Jessica Chastain had people chirping last year when they banded together to demand equal pay on a still-unnamed Netflix holiday project. “Jessica and I stood together, and that was interesting that she would take that position — well, I mean, she is Jessica Chastain — but we also need advocates and allies in negotiating,” she asserted.

“Madam C.J. Walker” will premiere on Netflix with eight episodes.
