Chris Pratt Celebrates As Close Friend And Al-Qaeda Hostage Survivor Makes His Successful Bellator MMA Debut

It seems Chris Pratt is a good luck charm.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star flanked his close friend Adel Altamimi to the cage at Saturday night’s Bellator 214 event in California.

Pratt and Altamimi forged a friendship at the Unbreakable MMA gym in Los Angeles and the MMA fighter has even joined Pratt’s family for dinner. Altamimi was born in Baghdad, Iraq and has a truly heart-breaking story.

The Unbreakable MMA trainer once drove convoys for the U.S. Marines before being captured by Al-Qaeda. Altamimi witnessed his cousin and close friend decapitated in front of him. U.S. Marines broke through the Al-Qaeda base and rescued Altamimi just as he was to be executed.

Unbreakable MMA not only trains celebrities like Pratt, Demi Lovato, and Wiz Khalifa, but they also work with veterans and retired athletes. Pratt explained how Altamimi’s infectious energy and belief in God forged a deep bond between the pair in a Bellator video package that aired Saturday.

The “Jurassic World” star wished Altamimi luck in an Instagram post published four days before the fight. “So excited to watch my brother from another mother, the fierce but humble warrior @adelkyokushin as he makes his @bellatormma debut,” Pratt wrote. “I’ll be there walking him to the ring. I’ll wave to you. Go time baby!”

Altamimi was ultimately successful in his Bellator debut, submitting his opponent Brandon McMahon in the first round of their fight. Pratt stood next to Altamimi after the bout as the winning fighter was interviewed.
