‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Parodies Bruce Springsteen With ‘I Hate Everything But You’

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is known for its lavish musical numbers, which have parodied acts ranging from Simon & Garfunkel (as puppet pretzels, no less) to Gwen Stefani, and the show’s latest takes on the Boss.

In a new video from the show, Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) is now back together with newly sober ex-boyfriend Greg (Skylar Astin of “Pitch Perfect”), who straps on a Fender Telecaster to deliver a Bruce Springsteen-style anthem about how our perceptions of exes change over time.

Titled “I Hate Everything But You”, the song lists all the things that Greg loathes, including shampoo combined with conditioner, people who call a hat a “lid,” white women who refer to their engagement rings as “bling,” referring to blueberries as superfood, bands that have mandolin players, and more.

During an appearance at the summer edition of the Television Critics Association press tour in the summer, Bloom teased the return of Greg, who was originally played by a different actor, Santino Fontana.

“It is not only like a big leap and feels experimental and playful like our show, but as you will see, when the show airs, it will be kind of a great statement on how our perception of people changes,” she explained.

“And Greg is sort of a barometer of how much Rebecca has changed because she will not have seen him for two years, and Skylar’s lovely. We’re so excited.”
