Danielle Brooks, best known for her role on “Orange Is The New Black” as Taystee is showing off another one of her talents.

The multi-talented actress has dropped her single “Black Woman” and spoke to Cocoa Butter about the song.

After two of her friends asked her if she could talk about anything without a filter, she came up with “Black Woman”, saying she “decided to write this song, without any filters, of my journey as a black woman in America.”

Brooks hopes that people who listen to the song will feel “empowered” and “like they could take over the world.”

She owes her first inspiration to her mother, LaRita Brooks, who helped her achieve her dreams of becoming an actress by finding every acting class available.

Brooks also thanks her godmother and grandmother for teaching her “what love really looks like.”

Gayle King gets a shout out for being a “resource” for her that “has just been so helpful.”

She even gives tips for any black woman trying to achieve their dreams like “listening to this song”, “find your role models”, and dive into “self-help books” adding she is “always reading something.”
