“Game of Thrones” fans got an unexpected treat during the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
During the game, Bud Light premiered a special crossover ad in partnership with the HBO series.
The ad is set up as one of the beer company’s series of “Dilly Dilly” medieval parody ads, with a king and queen sipping on Bud Lights while watching a jousting match.
Things take a weird and hilarious turn when the “Game of Thrones” character The Mountain shows up to crush the Bud Light Knight’s head to everyone’s horror.
Suddenly a dragon appears in the sky and burns everyone up before a title appears that reads: “Game of Thrones: The Final Season” and teases the new season’s April 14 premiere date.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the ad was actually directed by frequent “Game of Thrones” director David Nutter, with the involvement of the series’ showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Fans on Twitter were totally delighted by the crossover parody ad.
