The planned “World War Z” sequel will not move forward as expected.

The second entry in the zombie drama franchise was expected to begin production this summer but those plans have been nixed due to budgeting issues.

David Fincher (“The Social Network”, “House of Cards”) was set to direct the “World War Z” sequel with Plan B producing the film. There is no word on whether the movie will go “back into development or be shelved indefinitely,” according to Deadline.

The movie would have reunited the filmmaker with Brad Pitt, the star of Fincher’s 2010 feature film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.

At face value, “World War Z” was a box office success. The film earned $540 million against a budget of $190 million; however, a rewrite of the script affected production and marketing costs and so, in reality, the film barely broke even.

The original film starred Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, and more. Former “Doctor Who” star Peter Capaldi hilariously made an appearance as a WHO Doctor, as did “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” star Ruth Negga.
