Michelle Rodriguez is the latest celeb to come to the defence of Liam Neeson, but in an unexpected way.
Speaking at the amfAR Gala in New York on Wednesday, the actress spoke about the controversy surrounding her “Widows” co-star over an admission that he once sought to attack a random black person after learning a loved one had been raped.
“It’s all f****in’ bulls**t. Liam Neeson is not a racist,” Rodriguez said, according to Vanity Fair.
She continued, explaining her reasoning: “Dude, have you watched ‘Widows’? His tongue was so far down Viola Davis’s throat. You can’t call him a racist ever. Racists don’t make out with the race that they hate, especially in the way he does with his tongue—so deep down her throat. I don’t care how good of an actor you are. It’s all bulls**t. Ignore it. He’s not a racist. He’s a loving man. It’s all lies.”
On Twitter, Rodriguez’s comment was met with a lot of blowback, with many pointing out that ability to kiss someone of another race is not a sign of whether someone is racist.
Three days later, Rodriguez apologized for the “insensitive” way she defended Neeson. “I want to deeply apologize for my recent choice of words, and poor use of example,” she wrote. “I have learned from this and will grow from it,” she concluded.
