Katy Perry is emerging from a cocoon in life and on PAPER‘s 2019 Transformation cover.
The “Roar” singer opened up to the magazine about her education, how she handles relationships in her 30s, and how significant it was to cut her hair short.
Perry, 34, plans on going back to college and has already done a tour of Oxford. “A lot of people go [to this Oxford program] who have already had success in their careers at 45,” the singer says. “And they’re like, ‘Well, what the f**k do I do now?’ That was interesting because it would be very Harry Potter for me.”
The 13-time Grammy nominee has experienced her fair share in the music industry and in her love life. Perry was linked to Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy early on and was married to Russell Brand between 2010 and 2012.
These days Perry is back together with Orlando Bloom and says she enters relationships with a totally different mindset. “I’m very pragmatic and logistical and I am less fantastical about things,” she explains. “I mean, I was married when I was 25. I’m 34. It was almost 10 years ago. I was like, ‘One person for the rest of my life,’ and I’m not so sure that that idea is for me.”
“I’m just such a different person than I was,” she announces.
Speaking of changes, Perry says chopping off her long locks was one of the most significant changes she has experienced as a woman. “Changing my hair definitely was the biggest physical transformation I have experienced as a woman,” Perry proclaims. “When you don’t have long hair, you really can’t hide behind it. Everything is exposed.”
Perry released her latest album, Witness, in 2017 and supported the chart-topping project with a 2017-2018 world tour.
