Dan Gasby is not shying away from the controversy surrounding his marriage.

B. Smith’s husband sat down with the hosts of “The View” to discuss his unusual relationship with his wife and her caretaker. Gasby is dating his wife’s active caregiver, Alex Lerner, who even has a room in the husband and wife’s home.

“When we got the diagnosis at Mount Sinai… she stopped me, put her hand on my arm and… she said to me, ‘I want you to go on,'” Gasby argued. “I’m not doing anything we didn’t discuss.”

Sunny Hostin, who is friends with both Gasby and Smith, finds that a tough pill to swallow. She acknowledged how challenging it is to care for someone with Alzheimer’s but believes giving Lerner a room in their home is a boundary Gasby should never have crossed.

“Did she say you can have your girlfriend live in our home?” Hostin asked. “B. can’t consent to that.”

“I could have easily placed her into a facility and I would not do that,” Gasby argued. “This notion of vows, I’m keeping my vows… Vows are to protect, to care for.”

Gasby married Smith in 1992. Smith revealed her diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2014.
