Bebe Rexha wants to get the respect she’s earned.
The singer got into a dust-up with the audience while performing at Spotify’s pre-Grammys event honouring the the Best New Artist nominees, according to The Associated Press.
While performing her song “Meant to Be”, Rexha found the audience of mostly music industry insiders were unresponsive and not singing back, making her angry enough to stop the performance.
“This song was No. 1 for 50 f***ing weeks,” she shouted. “I work too f***ing hard for this s**t, OK?”
She added, looking to her mother in attendance, “My Mom is like ‘please calm down.’ I love you Mom. I’m calming down.”
The 29-year-old continued, “I worked too hard for this moment. I’m from Staten Island, New York, and I’m standing on this stage right here. You’re going to sing the f***ing words if you know the f***ing song.”
After restarting the song, the crowd did reportedly get more into it.
Along with Best New Artist, Rexha is also nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Meant to Be”, which she recorded with Florida Georgia Line.
