High School Musical (and its two sequels) was a monster hit for the Disney Channel, and made stars out of of then-unknowns Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.
Reassembling the very-busy cast for a fourth movie would be expensive, difficult and, given that they’re all far older than high school age, pretty impractical, so the Disney Channel is announcing it’s holding a massive casting call to find the future stars who’ll appear in the just-announced High School Musical 4.
In fact, producers are casting a very wide net, opening up the audition process to, well, everybody: young actors, singers and dancers (aged 14-17) are invited to audition via the Disney Applause app from April 18 until May 2.
According to the announcement, “High School Musical 4 will continue the story of High School Musical and introduce new East High Wildcats and their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights.”;
Jeffrey Hornaday (director of Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2) will direct and choreograph.
No word on when High School Musical will air; in the meantime, check out this reunion of the original cast:
