It seems as though Kesha isn’t the only musician who has been threatened to be allegedly blackmailed by a producer.
Canadian musician Grimes – formally known as Claire Boucher – has now claimed that “numerous”; male producers have threatened to stop working with her unless she agreed to have sex with them.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine about her fourth album “Art Angles”;, released last November, Grimes commented on Kesha’s lawsuit with Dr. Luke and Sony. She said, “I don’t know enough about the specifics of that situation, because it seems very complicated.”;
Grimes added, “But I will say that I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, “We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room.’ If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”;
This wouldn’t be the first time the musician has spoken about sexism in the music industry. Last year, she told Fader, “[…] going into studios, there’s all these engineers there, and they don’t let you touch the equipment. They’d be like “No, just tell us what to do, and we’ll do it’. And then a male producer would come in, and he’d be allowed to do it. It was so sexist… it made me really disillusioned with the music industry.”;
