Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette was practically unrecognizable as a frumpy prison guard in the recent Showtime miniseries “Escape from Dannemora”, and she once again disappears into her latest character for another project based on a real-life crime.
In Hulu’s “The Act”, Arquette portrays Dee Dee Blanchard, a seemingly doting mother of an apparently handicapped young daughter, Gypsy Rose (Joey King). The family situation, however, takes a deadly turn when some startling truths emerge.
“‘The Act’ is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories,” states Hulu’s synopsis for the upcoming series.
“The first season follows Gypsy Blanchard, a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother,” the synopsis continues. “Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder.”
In addition to Arquette and King, the cast also includes AnnaSophia Robb (“The Carrie Diaries”) and Chloe Sevigny (“Big Love”).
“The Act” premieres on March 20.
