On Tuesday, PETA’s Film and Television Division handed out its second annual “Oscat” awards, promoting good behaviour toward animals on screen and on set, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Bradley Cooper earned the Best Director prize due to his “enlightened decision to cast his own canine companion in ‘A Star Is Born’ rather than using one supplied by a notorious animal exhibitor.”
The adorable labradoodle plays an important role in the film, starring as the pet dog belonging to Cooper and Lady Gaga’s respective characters Jackson Maine and Ally.

Speaking to People last year, Cooper talked about casting his own dog in the film.
“There was no nepotism — I wanted this relationship with the dog,” he said. “[Jackson and Ally] don’t have a child together but they have a dog together, and I wanted it to be part of their story. I love dogs.”
