There are myriad Star Wars conspiracy theories out there as to the parentage of Rey (Daisy Ridley), ranging from her being the daughter of Luke Skywalker to a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

However, The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams dropped a huge clue during an onstage discussion — and then apparently backtracked.

Appearing at the Tribeca Film Festival last night for an onstage Q&A with Chris Rock, Abrams was asked about Rey, reports The New York Daily News.

His answer: “Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. It may sound like an autosave, but it’s something Rey thinks about, too.”;

That would seemingly shut down many of the theories — especially the predominant one involving Luke Skywalker — but in a subsequent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams clarified his remarks in a way that reignites those supposedly snuffed-out theories.

“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII,”; he said, backtracking significantly. “Not that they may not already be in her world.”;
