The DC Extended Universe appears to be shaking things up going forward.
According to a new report by Forbes, among the many things going on with DC’s superhero universe, it appears Jared Leto won’t be getting a spin-off solo “Joker” movie afterall.
There had been plans for both a Leto “Joker” film along with a “Mad Love”-style film featuring Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn from “Suicide Squad”, but those plans have been put aside, according to the report.
In the meantime, the Joker character is getting his own film from director Todd Phillips, with Joaquin Phoenix wearing the clown makeup.
“Suicide Squad”, meanwhile, is about to see a “soft reboot” with its upcoming sequel written by James Gunn, Forbes says. The film will feature new characters, and neither Robbie, nor Leto are slated to return to the series.
Robbie isn’t totally exiting the DCEU, though. She’s set to play Harley Quinn at least once more in the film “Birds of Prey”, which started filming last month.
Other films still on tap for DC include “Shazam!”, “Wonder Woman 1984”, “Supergirl”, “The Batman”, “Batgirl”, “New Gods”, “Green Lantern Corps” and the lower-budget “Aquaman” spin-off “The Trench”.
