Symettrica Entertainment, the production company behind a Drake documentary, is suing Universal Music Group (UMG) after they claim they were attacked for using his music and pictures.

They say that Universal had them remove all the Drake music and video clips from “Drake: Re-writing the Rules” which created a significant issue in the unauthorised documentary about the Canadian artist.

TMZ received a copy of the lawsuit where that states Univeral’s move “has nothing to do with purported ‘copyright infringement,’ and everything to do with placating its artist Drake by attempting to suppress any commentary or criticism of Drake.”

The documentary was first released on Vevo in November. On Jan. 16 Netflix, iTunes and Amazon also released the doc.

Symettrica is reporting that they got the notice from UMG on Jan. 17 and two days later the platforms removed the content.

The company is claiming that they have lost a lot of money since UMG applied pressure and that the clips of Drake were fair use.

Symettrica is not suing Drake and is hoping the courts will prove that they can use the content.
