Dolly Parton and Carl Thomas Dean have been married for 53 years, yet the country superstar’s reclusive husband is apparently not much of a music fan — and that includes the music of his famous spouse.
Speaking with “Good Morning Britain” about the West End premiere of “9 to 5: The Musical”, the 73-year-old music icon admitted that despite their long marriage, Dean has only seen her perform live less than a handful of times.
“He felt like he’d get nervous if I messed up and all that. He’s not necessarily one of my biggest fans [of] my music,” she said.
“He’s proud of me. And he loves that I love what I do. I think it’s just… it’s a touchy subject,” she explained. “I’m like his little girl, I think. He just worries about that.”
In fact, Parton revealed her hubby is more a Led Zeppelin kind of guy. “He likes hard rock and Led Zeppelin and bluegrass music,” Parton added. “He doesn’t dislike [my music], he doesn’t go out of his way to play my records, let’s put it that way.”
Asked to pinpoint the secret to their long union, Parton explained: “The fact that we like each other, we respect each other, we’ve always had a good time. He’s crazy and I’m crazy. We laugh a lot and I think that’s been one of the healthiest, the most precious parts of our relationship.”
