When music royalty meets British royalty, Twitter loses all control.
Beyonce and Jay- Z accepted their International Group award at this year’s Brit Awards in a pre-recorded video package. In the video, the Carters stand next to a portrait of Duchess Meghan Markle.
“Thank you so much to the Brit Awards for this incredible honour. You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love, thank you,” Beyonce said in the video package. “You’re welcome,” Jay-Z quipped.
The two then turned and faced the duchess’ regal portrait. Fans online were over the moon.
Beyonce explained the video on her website, saying that Meghan used her platform as an actress “for good.” She added that her “charitable work in communities of [colour] began years before becoming the Duchess of Sussex.”
Beyonce wrote that she is “one of the few Black women to join a royal family. Meghan brought many Black traditions to her Royal Wedding including a Chicago-based Black pastor, an amazing gospel choir, and a young Black cellist. At the wedding her culture was front and center, and she and Prince Harry have continued to push the race relations dialogue forward both near and far.”
“In [honour] of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” the Queen B wrote. “Congrats on your pregnancy!”
The Brit Awards 2019 took place on Wednesday, February 20.
