Growing up in Los Angeles meant that Meghan Markle spent time with some Hollywood celebrities in her youth, one of those being Katharine McPhee.
Markle and McPhee both attended Immaculate Heart High School, where they shared a love of acting and the stage.
Speaking to People, McPhee recalled going to school with the Duchess of Sussex. “She was actually in my sister’s class, two years older than me. My sister did shows with her,” she said, adding that she also performed with Markle. “I did two shows with her when I was a seventh-grader or eighth-grader.”
She added: “They were obscure musicals. I think one was called ‘Yankee Doodle’. I don’t know if there are videos of her singing, but she’s a really good singer.”
Anyone else imagining the duchess singing to Baby Sussex?
McPhee is in London to reprise her role of Jenna in “Waitress”. She performed the hit Broadway show in New York last year, before heading across the pond.
The “Smash” actress is crossing her fingers that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will make a date night out of it and come see the show.
“It would be a nice treat to give them an entertaining evening. But we’ve no expectations,” she said.
The show’s storyline features McPhee’s character becoming a mother, which is something she and Markle could bond over.
She adds she would like to be a “mother at some point, [but] I’m focused on getting through the run of the show and then figuring out the next phase is.”
McPhee’s fiance, David Foster, is currently in L.A., so she has had to adjust to British life on her own, but she is “loving exploring the neighbourhoods.”
