Idris Elba makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday where he opens up about DJing the Royal Wedding and shares his thoughts on being People‘s Sexiest Man Alive.

The “Turn Up Charlie” star reveals how he landed the gig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, admitting to DeGeneres that he thought the Duke of Sussex was “joking” when he first suggested the idea.

“So Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad’s [Prince Charles] charity – The Prince’s Trust – who helped me out as a young actor so I work with them a lot,” explains Elba, who will be bringing his DJ skills to Coachella this year.

“Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]’ and I told him nothing and then he goes, ‘Hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?’… I was like, ‘is this a joke?'”

Elsewhere on the show, the “Luther” actor tells DeGeneres that he’s going to hold onto People‘s Sexiest Man Alive title for the rest of his life, even if there is some “stiff competition” out there battling for the honour.

“You know, Dwayne Johnson [who was awarded the title in 2016], we made a movie together, and Dwayne didn’t want to give [the title] up. I was like, ‘Give me a celebratory video,’ and he was like, ‘I’m not doing that.'”

DeGeneres points out that Elba will probably find it hard to give it up next year, but the “Molly’s Game” star has a philosophy about that. “It’s called the Sexiest Man Alive, so as long as I’m alive, I’m still sexy.”

Elba also talks about proposing to his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre during a private screening of his film “Yardie” last year. “It was like two days before Valentine’s Day, and I had this ring burning a hole in my pocket… [but] she had to fly somewhere, so I couldn’t see her on that day.

“When I made [“Yardie”], she was on set every day, so during the private screening, I dropped to one knee. It was very nerve-wracking!”
