Regis Philbin, 84, is weighing in on the drama surrounding his former co-host Kelly Ripa.
Ripa appeared blindsided by the news that her fellow “Live With Kelly & Michael”; co-host Michael Strahan announced his departure during a live show this week. Ripa has since been absent from the show, taking what her publicist calls a “long-planned”; vacation. She was spotted this morning leaving her home in New York City for the presumed getaway.

Philbin spoke to reporters in New York City today, addressing the news that Strahan was leaving. Philbin, hosted the morning talk show both on his own and with a co-host for nearly 30 years, shared the “Live!”; stage with Ripa from 2001 to 2011.
“They should have told her at the beginning,”; Philbin told reporters, stating that he hasn’t spoken with Ripa since the news broke. The octogenarian also put rumours of his return to the show to rest, while calling Strahan “great.”;
