If you are a fan of Canada Goose then Bill Maher is no fan of you.
The “Real Time” shunned “hipster d**ches” who wear Canada Goose parkas in a new PSA for PETA on “Real Time”. The segment was filmed before taping of Maher’s HBO show on Friday.
“New rule: No more d**ches. I mean the hipster d**ches who piss away $1,000 on a Canada Goose parka and the hipsterazzi who max out their credit cards to look like them,” he said.
“See, what they don’t realize — or may not care about — is that Canada Goose trims its coats with the fur of coyotes who’ve been crushed and mangled in steel traps so painful and indiscriminate that they’ve been outlawed in over 85 countries,” the television personality continued.
Maher explained how the coyotes “try to chew off their own leg” in an effort to return to their pups. Those who don’t are “strangled or beaten to death by the a**holes who set the traps… If they do, they die later anyway of blood loss, infection, shock or gangrene.”
The treatment of geese is equally horrific. According to Maher, geese are “grabbed by the neck, stepped on, and crammed into crates so crowded they make clown cars look like Cadillacs.”
“Don’t wear Canada Goose. Only a d**che does that,” Maher concluded. “You won’t look cool — you’ll look cold.”
Canada Goose defended their company against Maher’s remarks in a statement to ET Canada. “We are disappointed that PETA continues to grossly misinform their spokespeople about our use and sourcing of fur and down and we would encourage them to do their research first and not misrepresent the facts,” they said.
“This scripted rhetoric continues to attempt to mislead consumers,” Canada Goose continued. “While we remain committed to the responsible use and ethical sourcing of all materials in our products, as evidenced by our transparency standards.”
