Rose McGowan is standing up for herself and other women who choose to have an abortion.
The “Scream” actress opened up about her difficult decision to have an abortion. She shared the news Friday on Twitter. “I have had an abortion and I support this message,” McGowan tweeted in response to a statement reading, “1 in 4 women has an abortion by age 45.”
“I am not ashamed, nor should you be,” the actress wrote. “That 60 per cent of those who choose to have abortions are already mothers says a lot — they understand more than anyone. I was on birth control and it failed. I realized I could not bring a child into my world and simultaneously change the world.”
“I do not regret my decision and it was not made lightly. If you do not want an abortion, don’t get one,” she continued. “My body, my choice, my life. Have you had to make a choice? Let’s talk and use hashtag #HonestAbortion.”
McGowan, 45, engaged in dialogue with her followers on Twitter, congratulating them for their strength to speak up.
McGowan has been a leading voice for pro-women movements ever since she accused disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct.
