Ryan Gosling is crushing all of our meme dreams.
In a new Buzzfeed video with Russell Crowe promoting their buddy comedy “The Nice Guys”;, Gosling is adamant that he’s never uttered the words “hey girl”;.
“I never said it!”; the actor screams when Crowe confronts him with the varied merchandise featuring his purported pick-up line.
“Don’t you think that I have a right to know that you’re engaging in this kind of commercialism?” Crowe says amid a room full of “hey girl”; Gosling merchandise during a mock couples therapy session led by Melissa Rauch.
“I didn’t have anything to do with it” exclaims Gosling. “This is a charade!”
This isn’t the first time Gosling has denied any association with “hey girl,”; the phrase that has spawned thousands of memes dedicated to the actor. Last year, the actor claimed he’d never uttered those two magical words in any project, at any time.

So if Gosling didn’t say it, where exactly did it come from?
The meme began on Tumblr back in 2008 and quickly went viral, launching thousands of images of the actor with the “hey girl”; line superimposed on his photo followed by a cheesy pick-up line.
There’s even a sub-section of the “hey girl”; meme dedicated to feminist-specific Gosling sayings, which Crowe references in the video.
