Based on chilling true events, “The Act” follows the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, portrayed by Joey King, who’s trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, played by Patricia Arquette.

As Gypsy attempts to break away from her controlling mother, she discovers a number of secrets that eventually lead to Dee Dee’s murder.

The trailer gives audiences an in-depth look at the storytelling they can expect from the series, with the final scene showing King’s character being asked whether she will plead guilty or not to the murder.

This isn’t the first time the infamous murder of Dee Dee Blanchard has been featured on the small screen. In 2017, HBO created a documentary style film called “Mommy Dead and Dearest”. Earlier this year, Lifetime released their own spin on the story called “Love You to Death”, starring Marcia Gay Harden.

Dee Dee allegedly suffered from Munchausen syndrome, which prompted her to make her daughter appear younger and chronically ill.

The series also stars Chloe Sevigny, AnnaSophia Robb and Calum Worthy. Check out the trailer above before “The Act” hits Hulu on Wednesday, March 20.
