Luke Perry’s daughter was on the other side of the world when the actor suffered a massive stroke, but she rushed back to be by her father’s side as soon as she heard the devastating news.
Sophie Perry, 18, has broken her silence following the sudden and unexpected passing of her dad. “I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, and in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support,” she wrote on Tuesday. “I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye.”

A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast. I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I. I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.
Sophie was in Africa when news broke of her father’s stroke last week. She immediately travelled from Africa to Los Angeles to be with her father. Sophie was in Malawi for more than a month before cutting her stay short.
Her most recent post from Malawi was in the early hours on Wednesday, Feb. 27. “It’s been a month and Malawi has gifted me with so so much joy, beauty, and malaria,” Sophie wrote. “Wouldn’t trade it.”
Sophie was close to her father, often sharing pictures of the two of them on social media.
She shared other fun pictures of Perry from his Broadway years.
Perry – known for his many roles, including “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Riverdale” – suffered a massive stroke around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and died on Monday, March 4 at the age of 52.
