The eagle-eyed fans on Twitter didn’t take long to notice that the Duchess of Sussex wasn’t wearing her engagement ring during the events marking Commonwealth Day today.
Prince Harry designed the classic engagement ring with the help of Cleave and Company, the Queen’s preferred jeweller. The centre stone was ethically-sourced from Botswana where the couple fell in love. The two side stones were from a brooch that belonged to his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
The ring was absent from her left hand with just her Welsh gold wedding band.
While there were some doubters on social media (as always) the missing ring is likely because the Duchess is eight months pregnant.
A common side effect of pregnancy, particularly at this stage, is swelling. Many pregnant ladies can’t wear their rings and have to opt for different shoes.
Another suggestion is that the ring looked to be loose on the former actress in recent pictures. When the Duchess was photographed with Prince Harry on stage during WE Day, the ring was turned with the diamonds facing inwards.
Markle’s engagement ring has been this way since Prince Harry gave it to her in late 2017.
So a second possibility is that she is having it resized so it doesn’t slip off.
Either way, people can stop looking into this too much.
