The casting process for “The Crown” season 4 is underway and allegedly Netflix is looking for a “staggeringly talented young actress” to play Princess Diana, who is described as a “desperate and lonely self-harmer.”
According to the Sun, an advert for the role asks for “a mesmerising new young star with extraordinary range.
“She has to play charming comedy, flirt and social exhibitionist on the world stage, desperate and lonely self-harmer at her lowest ebb and the kind of psychological intensity of Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby.”
Current favourites to play the late princess, according to oddsmakers, are Florence Pugh (“Fighting With My Family”), Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), and Ellie Bamber (BBC’s “Les Miserables”).
The fourth season of the royals drama is said to focus on Diana’s relationship with Prince Charles and the couple’s marriage in 1981.
In the controversial book, Diana: Her True Story, biographer Andrew Morton published transcripts of a supposed secret interview with Diana in which she discussed her battles with mental health following her marriage to Charles.
“We stayed up there [at Balmoral] from August to October. I got terribly, terribly thin. People started commenting: ‘Your bones are showing.’ By October, I was in a very bad way. I was so depressed, and I was trying to cut my wrists with razor blades.”
Diana and Charles confirmed their divorce in 1996.
In the meantime, “The Crown” season 3 will hit the streamer this summer, at which point Oscar winner Olivia Colman will take over from Claire Foy as the Queen. Helena Bonham Carter also stars as Princess Margaret.
