Jussie Smollett surprised observers by walking into a Cook County courthouse Tuesday morning.
The actor was there for a hearing that he was not obligated to attend, TMZ reported.
The hearing in question involved filling out paperwork allowing attorney Mark Geragos to represent him in the state of Illinois.
Also on the docket at the hearing was the issue of whether cameras will be allowed in the courtroom as the case proceeds, with Judge LeRoy Martin allowing cameras for the upcoming judge assignment on Thursday and leaving it up to the trial judge to decide on cameras for further court dates.
It was Smollett’s first public appearance since his indictment last week on 16 counts related to his alleged hoax hate-crime attack earlier this year.
