Behind almost every best-dressed star in Hollywood is a powerhouse stylist.
Following a notable awards season, The Hollywood Reporter has unveiled its Top 25 Most Influential Stylists of 2019 as part of its Stars of Style issue.
Based on “star power, style and social media,” THR‘s top stylists for this year include fashion duo — and newcomers to the list — Tom Eerebout and Sandra Amador, who styled Lady Gaga for her “A Star Is Born” press tour.
On Gaga’s pink Valentino Haute Couture gown at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, Amador recalls, “It was the first premiere, so all of the elements — the grandeur of Venice, the thunderstorm, the introduction of Lady Gaga and this campaign — were cinematic.”
Also on this year’s list is stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who appears on one of the issue’s five covers with “Homecoming” star Julia Roberts.
Best known for her work with Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, and Gal Gadot, Stewart says that her most popular look with Roberts was the star’s Stella McCartney gown-and-pant combo at the 2019 Golden Globes.
“Julia has a very specific style but is also interested in the world of fashion and trying new things,” says the Santa Monica-based designer. “So, that alchemy translates into looks like the Stella one.”
Joining Emily Blunt on another cover is Jessica Paster, who also dresses Olivia Munn and Aubrey Plaza. Paster says that dressing Blunt for her “Mary Poppins Returns” press tour this year was “whimsical.”
“We wanted to translate the magic of the movie onto the red carpet,” she says of the star’s memorable looks, including a royal blue Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown with red velvet heels at the London premiere.
Featured on another cover is Idris Elba with his stylist Cheryl Konteh, who is new to this year’s list.
Discussing her working relationship with the “Luther” star for the past eight years, Konteh says, “Idris is not the kind of person who just has a stylist bring him a boatload of clothes — he gets involved and is passionate about it.”
