Big royal news announced today as Queen Elizabeth has approved the creation of a new Household for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The new household will come this spring, likely before their first child is due at the end of April/early May and as they make their move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate.
Both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles support this new creation and which is an important factor in how the future of the monarchy will play out. With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex president and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, the two will need full support as their roles take them across the globe.
Just the same as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will need complete backing as Prince William becomes Prince of Wales. Two very different positions, both significant to the future of the monarchy.
The new Household Office will be based out of Buckingham Palace with their staff reporting to the Queen’s Communications Secretary, Donal McCabe.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have appointed Sara Latham as their head of communications. Latham has an impressive background including work as a senior advisor on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Further staff have yet to be announced.
Prince William and Kate promoted Jason Knauf as their senior adviser, and Christian Jones will now be their communications secretary.
Kensington Palace will continue to support the Duke and Duchess of Sussex until their new Household is completely set up.
