Over a month after the untimely death of Kristoff St. John, the longtime “Young And The Restless” actor’s cause of death has been revealed.
According to the coroner’s report, the 52-year-old’s death has been ruled an “accident,” with the cause listed as “hypertrophic heart disease.” A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner tells ET Canada “other contributing factors” to his death include alcohol.
On February 4, police were called to the actor’s home for what was considered a “possible alcohol overdose.” An autopsy was carried out but the cause of death was deferred until the coroner could conduct an additional investigation.
St. John’s ex-wife, Mia St. John, recently spoke about the importance of seeking help for mental health issues following the deaths of St. John and their son, Julian, who committed suicide in 2014.
“Never be ashamed because every one of us suffers from some mental health issue,” she said. “But I’m going to continue to speak out, even if it hurts my ego. I’m going to speak out, and I’m going to continue to let people know about mental health. I’m not going to stop talking about it. I’m going to continue to fight in the [honour] of my boys that I lost.”
