Transgender And Deaf Activist Chella Man Cast As Jericho In ‘Titans’

Fans are applauding DC Universe’s latest casting for the TV series “Titans”.

On Wednesday, the streaming service announced deaf, transgender activist and artist Chella Man will be joining the series as the superhero Jericho.

In the comics, the character has always used sign language, as his vocal cords severed by assassins. Jericho’s mysterious powers are activated by his gaze — if he locks eyes with people he can control their bodies. As a trans, Deaf, Jewish person of color, I have always reminded myself of the power in my differences. It is a dream come true, now, as I will be able to showcase this power on the Titans. The role marks Man’s acting debut.

Jericho, whose alter ego is named Joseph Wilson, is the metahuman son of Deathstroke, and can possess any person he makes eye contact with.

Jericho becomes mute after an accident, meaning he mostly communicates through sign language.

DC says the character will be an ally to the Titans team, and will also be bisexual in the TV series.
