Five months after ending their engagement, is Ariana Grande offering a veiled explanation for why she and Pete Davidson broke up?
That’s what some are wondering after the “7 Rings” singer shared a cryptic post on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, sharing a screenshot of a quote from author Horacio Jones, titled, “Letting Someone Go”.
If the quote, which Grande, 25, took from the self-help Instagram page @the_enligthen_core, is indeed about her ex, it would offer some insight into why she and Davidson ended their whirlwind courtship.
The quote points out that “sometimes, the reason for letting someone go is because they can’t help but hurt you during this phase of their life. When you love someone deeply, you learn what demons live within them and you realize they are hurting you because they are hurting somewhere within themselves. they are fighting a battle within and may not even know it, so they take it out on you and fight you.”
Grande and the “Saturday Night Live” star, also 25, began dating in May 2018, and confirmed their engagement the following month; they announced they were splitting up in mid-October of that same year.
In an interview with GQ, Davidson offered his own insight into their zero-to-60 courtship. “The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow,’” he told the mag. “She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favourite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.’”
