Everyone is guessing which actor will take over the “licence to kill” from Daniel Craig after he retires from the role of James Bond after one final 007 movie.
With Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and Richard Madden some of the names frequently bandied about, another popular name on that list is “Outlander” star Sam Heughan.
Heughan, in fact, had some fun with being one of the 007 rumours in some silly tweets he sent out on Thursday.
It all started when MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz jokingly tweeted that after the casting of Robert Pattinson in Christopher Nolan’s next film and the official announcement of the long-awaited “Bill & Ted” sequel:
Heughan gleefully took the bait and ran with it.
He wasn’t done, adding that his bean-spilling had landed him in the slammer.
One person who would love to see the 38-year-old actor don a tux and order a martini, shaken not stirred, is Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, who gave him her full endorsement.
“I have seen that Sam is being tipped for James Bond and I think it would be great,” she said in an interview with The Scotsman. “Sam would do a fine job of it.”
Whether Heughan — or Elba, or Hiddleston, etc. — ever portrays Bond is anyone’s guess, but for now, fans will have to content themselves with knowing he’ll be back in a fifth season of “Outlander”, expected to debut later this year on W Network.
