Beyonce isn’t the only Meghan Markle fan in her family; it turns out her mother Tina Knowles is as well.
Queen Bey first paid tribute to the Duchess of Sussex during an acceptance speech video for the 2019 Brit Awards. She and Jay-Z stood in front of a Markle royal portrait — a play on their 2018 “APES**T” music video in which the couple stands next to the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris.
“In [honour] of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyonce later wrote on her website to explain the video. “Congrats on your pregnancy!”

Thank you to the Brits for the award for Best International Group. I won this award back in 2002 with my besties, Kelly and Michelle. How lucky am I to have been in a group with my other best friend, the GOAT Hova. 🙌🏾 In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.
Now it was the older Knowles’ turn to gush over Markle, telling US Weekly that she is “a beautiful, intelligent, independent young woman.”
Tina, 65, made the comments at the opening of Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963-1983 exhibition at the Broad. “I think it’s amazing that she got that opportunity and that she is a great representation for our people. It’s really wonderful!”
