Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have made history as the first royals to visit Cuba in an official capacity.

The royal couple made the stop on the island as part of their tour to the Caribbean in hopes of bettering relations between the U.K and Cuba.

They started the trip off with a wreath-laying ceremony for Jose Marti, an essayist and poet from the country as they debarked the UK jet RAF Voyager.

They also visited an exhibition on Marti to learn more about his life. Charles and Camilla will also join Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel for dinner.

There are no plans for Prince Charles to meet Raul Castro, brother of Fidel. The two brothers ruled Cuba from 1959 to 2018.

Earlier in the day, the two were in Barbados, a realm of the Commonwealth. St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenda, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have all been stops on their hectic 12-day tour.

Tomorrow the royal duo will be given a tour of Old Havana by the city’s official Historian Eusebio Leal. Tuesday will be about Cuban music, dance, and classic British cars. Prince Charles will then travel outside the city to learn about the renewable energy and organic farming taking place, a personal passion of the royal.

Before leaving Cuba for the Cayman Islands, Camilla will join a roundtable to discuss domestic violence and what can be done to help those affected by it. A topic she has made her platform no matter where their travels take them.
