Dr. Howard Kornfeld, who specializes in opioid addiction treatment, claims he was scheduled to see Prince in order to fight his addiction to painkillers.

William Mauzy, Kornfeld’s family attorney, states that the doctor was called because the artist was “dealing with a grave medical emergency”; and “the plan was to quickly evaluate his health and devise a treatment plan.”;

Kornfeld was originally scheduled to meet with Prince on April 21, but had to reschedule and, as a result, sent his son to Paisley Park to help stabilize the star. Howard was scheduled to arrive on Friday, April 22.
But sadly, Kornfeld’s son, Andrew, was one of the people at the Minnesota residence when Prince’s body was found dead on April 21.
A press conference held on Wednesday saw officials recount the moments before Prince’s body was discovered by Paisley Park staff.
“The staff representatives apparently found him in an elevator unconscious,” a representative at Wednesday’s press conference said. “One of the staff members started screaming. Andrew heard the screams and went to the elevator where he saw that Prince was unconscious.”
He added, “Andrew was the person to make the 911 call, describing the medical emergency at Paisley Park.”

Until toxicology reports are in, it is still undetermined if painkillers had a role in Prince’s death.
