Fans were quick to notice that days after the Tristan Thompson cheating scandal with Kylie Jenner’s best friend, Jordyn Woods, the Jordy Lip Kit from Kylie Cosmetics was deeply discounted.
Woods was kicked out of Jenner’s house after she allegedly cheated with Khloe Kardashian’s partner.
Jenner is now clarifying the price slash from $27 to $13.50 on the lip kit in comments to the New York Times. She states that she was unaware of the discount and called to find out what was going on as soon as she heard. The item was scheduled to go on sale beforehand as the company was changing from white to black packaging.
“That is just not my character. I would never do something like that and when I saw it, I was like, thrown back,” Jenner said. “Jordyn knows I didn’t actually put it on sale.”
The Jordy Lip Kit did quickly sell out, and there was a spike in sales of other products from Kylie Cosmetics.
If there is one thing the Kardashian/Jenner family knows how to do, it is market themselves and their products. As the youngest Jenner was just named Forbes youngest self-made billionaire.
“I can’t say I’ve done it by myself,” Jenner told the paper. “If they’re just talking finances, technically, yes, I don’t have any inherited money. But I have had a lot of help and a huge platform.”
In an earlier chat with Interview Germany, the reality star defended her new title from Forbes. “There’s really no other word to use other than self-made because that is the truth,” she explained. “That is the category that I fall under.”
She added, “Although, I am a special case because before I started Kylie Cosmetics, I had a huge platform and lots of fans.”
She was only 15 when her mother, Kris Jenner, took her to trademark her idea to have matching lip gloss and liner kits. By late 2015, a test line came out. In 2018, a full distribution deal with Ulta was signed and her product was released during the Christmas season. It is estimated that in the first year, Kylie Cosmetics reached around $360 million in revenue.
