It’s been 11 years since Robert Pattinson’s breakout role as the sparkly vampire Edward in the “Twilight” series. Now, the actor is looking back fondly on his time in the popular teen saga.

The 32-year-old actor tells USA Today he’s able to enjoy the movies more now that there’s less fan frenzy and hype around the franchise, which earned a combined $1.36 billion at the box office.

“It’s lovely now that the mania is not so intense,” Pattinson says of the scrutiny he faced. “People come up [to me] and just have very fond memories of it. It’s a really sweet thing. I think the only scary part was right in the thick of it all, when it was very, very intense. Now the intensity has died down and it’s just very warm memories.”

The actor admits to watching “New Moon”, the second film in the “Twilight” saga, “just the other day.”

“It genuinely does have an incredibly good soundtrack. I completely forgot but the soundtracks were quite ahead of their time,” he says. The soundtrack includes songs by Death Cab for Cutie, Thom Yorke, the Killers, Muse, St. Vincent, Bon Iver, and more.

Pattinson is also grateful the films are attracting a new generation of fans in their “late teens, early 20s”, adding that it’s become “quite a hip thing to like.”

“It’s a fascinating second wave of people appreciating it, which is kind of cool. I think when anything becomes a massive phenomenon, there’s always people who get annoyed because it’s just everywhere. But now it seems like a retro thing: the soundtrack, the fashion. It’s like, ‘Oh, that’s so late 2000s.'”

Pattinson can next be seen in the erotic space thriller “High Life”, opening in theatres April 19.
