Kelly Preston is remembering her late son in a emotional picture of Jett, her and his father, John Travolta.
Ten years ago, Jett, who had autism, died suddenly before his 17th birthday. On April 5, Preston shared the post in memory of Jett and other children who have autism in honour of Autism Awareness Month.
“To my sweet love, Jett… you are in our hearts forever,” the post started.
“I send love to all of the beautiful autistic children and the wonderful people who love them. May we all shine and grant love and respect to children with special needs,” she finished along with the hashtags #autismawarness and #autism.
Travolta commented on the post with a simple heart.
Jett died in 2009 while on vacation in the Bahamas with his family. He had a seizure and fell, hitting his head on the bathtub.
His parents kept the fact that he had Kawasaki Syndrome and numerous other health conditions, a private matter. It was not until after he died that they openly spoke about his autism and other medical conditions to help raise awareness.
Preston has also become a campaigner for more detailed labelling on chemical products as she believes household cleaners, pesticides and fertilizers caused Jett’s autism.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Travolta recalled Jett’s death. It was “the worst thing that’s ever happened in my life. I didn’t know if I was going to make it,” he told the magazine.
On April 13, which would have been Jett’s 27th birthday, Travolta took to Instagram to share a portrait of his son painted by a fan.
“Happy birthday my son,” he wrote in the caption. “I love you!”
